Sharing this one for my fellow non-Network engineers:. In this case, these devices were connected to Nexus 5Ks, either directly or via Nexus 2Ks. Depending on the network switch, it can either use the store and forwarding method or the cut-through method to forward frames. I believe Cisco Catalyst switches and Cisco Nexus series typically use store and forwarding. I believe the Cisco Nexus and series use cut-through.
Network engineers: please correct me if that is incorrect. Worked with a friendly Network Engineer to identify the device and interface that was the source of these propagating errors, and then replaced the cable. You are commenting using your WordPress.

If the problem is in the file itself, we start by making as best a copy of it as we can. Running tools like this is not without risk.
If your disk is on the verge of failure, the heavy use in analyzing and recovering the data could push it over the edge into a more catastrophic failure. If it works, save that as a possibly fixed copy of your file. Start backing up your important data. Download right-click, Save-As Duration: — 3. First of all I just want to let you know how critical and helpful your site has been, particularly this page. For example, my boyfriend is a grad school student in the middle of an important project with a deadlne, and as is usually the case, his computer crashed at the worst possible time.
It is a good thing we ran the check disk command when we did because every time we started his computer, even in safe mode, more data was being lost to the point where we were almost unable to start it at all the last time. I just wanted to say thank you very much for what you do! You are indeed a lifesaver- or at least a semester-saver! One question I have- Running the chkdsk command, literally hundreds of bad clusters are being repaired.
After the scan is done running, will we be able to access any record or list of what has been repaired? There are simply too many to keep track of, and seemingly no way to save.
First off I want to thank you for your site. But I do have a problem.
Fixing virtual disk errors in VMware
I know the above article deals with copying a file, but my problem is deleting a file. I first got the cyclic redundancy check error message when I tried to empty my Recycle Bin. A window popped up stating the following:. But even if I delete all the files shown, the recycle bin still reports the presence of one file. I believe that one of the files I tried to delete did not do so completely.
Should I even keep deleting the files in the Recycle Bin one by one? Thanks for your time. It sounds like the CRC error is in the filesystem itself, not one of your files. As handy and great VMs are, they are also quite volatile and tend to break or get corrupt easily.
If your host machine restarts unexpectedly or if the VM is not shut down properly etc. Below I have described how to resolve 3 of the most common corruption errors.
The best place to look for issues, if not otherwise advised by the actual player is in the VMware log file which can be found at the directory where your VM is running from. Close down VMware Player. Go to the directory where your VM files reside, search for and delete all directories and files ending in. Warning: the system was unable to load a page of memory; this can be caused by network problems or a failing hard disk drive.
Go to the directory that your VM files reside, search for and delete all. These files hold the state of you VM before it was last shut down and are used to restore it to this state during start-up.
If these files are corrupt for some reason, the VM startup will show the error above. Deleting these files allows you to reboot your VM OS with a clean slate. Reason: the specific virtual disk needs repair. In this case, one of the vmdk files I corrupt and needs repairing. To fix this error, download and install the Virtual Disk Development Kit here registration is required i'm afraid!

CRC error. Yesterday I got an error message, that the backp could not be transferred due to a crc error. Eventlog showed many disk errors, and a surface test revealed bad blocks. I will now replace the faulty hard disk, but how do I threat the erratic file s that are affected by the read errors? Should I just go ahead and delete the last some backups I assume the last backup files are only affectedand just live with the gap of e.
Thanks Johannes. Even if it was done several days ago. As for the backup chain, initiate an Active Full Backup for the job to start fresh chain. Who is online Users browsing this forum: Google [Bot] and 14 guests.I'm hoping that someone will have a solution for me.
I'm sadly close to wit's end with this one. First off, rough details:. I am using this to acces a Windows virtual environment, as the company requires my using some Windows-only applications. One of the things we need to do here, day by day, involves connecting to various shops I run tech support here.Home Lab Setup - pfSense, VMware ESXi Cluster, DIY SAN and more! (2017)
We often need to transfer updates to these systems using zmodem file transfers, from our computers to theirs. Quite simply, I am finding that a small file will run into hundreds of CRC errors before transferring properly, when I'm working in the VMware environment.
Originally, I configured VMware to use the physical hard drive partition that I had Win2k installed on, using profiles to allow me to either boot directly into Windows, or to access it through VMware.
I recall reading warnings about this, so I presumed this to be my problem, and set up a new Win2k environment, entirely using the virtual disk, or whatever you'd call it, that makes VMware so great.
Sadly, the problem persists, and yet isn't there when I boot directly into Windows. I've tried multiple new modems, as well, hoping that some manner of error correction, or different brands' Windows drivers, might help in any way.
If anyone has any thoughts, I'd greatly appreciate it. And Happy Halloween, to all who read this thread. I also have not tried upgrading my version of VMware server, due to not finding any information that led me to believe it would help, and much information that implies I should wait on 1.
Please provide the information requested in this document Read before posting questions. The exact kernel version? I'm using 2. The Win2k Guest OS is, of course, 32bit. Win2k Professional, I guess there was that rare 64bit one that was released Worked before, no. What triggers it, see above. Conditions where it does work, only when not doing it within VMware.
Not a network issue, so the next section doesn't apply. I also have no real reason to believe that it's a disk issue, as the files are fine with the exception of when they're being transferred through the modem's serial port.
