Hi all, new to this forum so I am betting this has alredy been posted but just in case it hasn't thought I would share my story. I had long heard that there wasn't a better federal job in law enforcement than the Postal Inspectors so I put all of my eggs in that basket starting over 3 years ago.

During the initial phases of the process I met the SAC here in Charlotte and after the initial test an Inspector came in and spoke freely about the job. The main thing I took from her talk was that they are compensated very well and they all enjoy their job and have disposal to all the coolest new gadgets. Needless to say I was excited.

In December I had finally reached the final stage and was flown out to Annapolis Maryland for the 3 day assesment center which consisted of a full day of tests and various scenarios. There were about 8 of us in my group and they notified you via a letter to your room if you passed the days assesments and would move on to take the polygraph.

I took the polygraph and passed it as well. Before leaving the assesment center I was congratulated and told that me and the 5 others that passed would be enrolled in the next class there in Annapolis the following April. I returned home and about a week later I was told that the duty stations I may be in line for were Columbia, SC and Wilmington, NC being from Charlotte I wanted Charlotte but was told that would be slim to none.

Then about 2 weeks later I received written notification in the mail that all Postal Inspectors positions were under a federal hiring freeze and that the academy I was supposed to attend would not be filled. I was told to maintain my contact information online and that they would contact me as soon as they were going to fill the next academy. The only information I have received from USPIS are brief responses from inquiring emails I send that simply say they are still under a hiring freeze.

Not sure if anyone else in the same boat or not, sure wish I had pursued a different federal agency as I am now 32 with an infant child. Tags: None. You are correct, this would be a dream job in Federal Law Enforcement. I did my college internship with them during the summer of In general, a USO is a collection of requirements that ensure everyone in the country receives a minimum level of mail service at a reasonable price. Other features of the USO are understood to include frequency of delivery, a range of product offerings, access to mail services, and quality of service.

For instance, delivering your mail 6 days a week is part of the USO. In fact, the USO is based on a hodgepodge of various legal requirements and regulations that, in most cases, provide only broad guidance. The big question: What exact services do policy makers and the American public both senders and receivers of the mail now need the Postal Service to provide? Our paper provides six guidelines the Postal Service and its many stakeholders can use to frame the discussion about the USO and try to answer that basic question.

For instance, we say a new USO should be clearly defined while also being flexible enough to adapt to future changes. Do you agree the USO should be updated to reflect the changing nature of communications?

How have your mail needs changed in the last decade? Do we still need 6-day-a-week delivery? How do you think the American public would benefit from a more clearly defined USO that included, for example, a minimum requirement for the number of access points?

I had an incident with the Postal Service not being able to rectify the situation at all. The apartment I live that is vacant above me and the worker who has been fixing the unit up above me told the postal carrier yesterday that the unit was empty and to discontinue mail she took it as the whole property being vacant and discontinued all of the homes mail. The issue with that is I was waiting for very important check in the mail that was to arrive today. The postal carrier discontinued the mail indefinitely at our address sending all mail back to the sender.

What if I told her she can't have her paycheck even though I have it in my hands. The actual office was no help either. They said if she thinks it's vacant then she doesn't have to deliver the mail. In general the Post Office doesn't give a damn about anyone. They can deliver mail incorrectly without any compensation to those affected. For example; I ordered two items from the same company, they both ship the same time, and have the same expected delivered date.

So it maybe someone's livelihood, but one get delivered on time to the correct location, but the other gets misshipped by the post office to another city.

That is miles away. What a normal business does is accommodate their customer, but ensuring the customer gets what they want, or at least make you feel better. Not the post office! There's nothing we can do to help you! Oh, and now you have to wait till Monday, because we're that nice!

Overnight it, do whatever you can, but get it to me asap! Not make me wait 3 more days. How do you think the American public would benefit from a more clearly defined USO that included, for example, a minimum requirement for the number of access points? I sent 2 priority mail packages out on December 16, Both packages had printed 4 x 6 labels with bar code and tracking. I printed the packages up using online software. I followed the packages which only show leaving my local post office in Vermont.

Both the packages were delivered today December 22,finally! Why should we have to pay the fees that the USPS charges when we can't get them delivered in 2 to 3 days?

It's almost fraud on the USPS part. Please refund my money? I share a mailbox with my landlady. She recently suggested I get a post office box because I am receiving many small parcels from online orders and she says all the mail may not fit.

Is this a valid concern? Or will the mail person bring it to her attention when and if this becomes a problem? I know that usps has a tough job this time of year which is why I haven't wrote this earlier. I ordered a package on Dec 8 and have seen that it is in your possession since Dec I've watched the tracking go from kearney nj to jersey city nj back to kearney nj and has been in white plains ny for 4 days.

I live 25 minutes from white plains and still don't have my package. Its the 22ND now and I need this package for christmas.

I'll pay extra but I need this package by tommorow at the latest or I won't be able to deliver it for christmas. Quick question: I ordered some pins from getpinz overnight. Re: Postal Inspector call? I'm gonna say if it's illegal you should say nothing and deny, deny, deny. You know nothing. And no i would not call him. Quote posted by hulklg. Sucks bro Thanks for the feedback guys. I have decided to consider the pack a loss and not call him. To answer the question above - this was not the regular postman. This was a postal inspector who arrived in a separate car and left his personal business card with his cell phone and asked that I give him a call.

I was not present when this happened so all this information was relayed to me from the person who was there at the time.Quickly responding to changes in those demands is paramount. Logistics services work for customers when they are efficient, timely, secure, and affordable. And so as consumer habits evolve, we need to keep pace. Customers today are ordering everything from books to bathroom basics via the Internet. This forces logistics providers to look for ways to improve their delivery networks.

Sometimes, though, even the simplest ideas might have a huge impact. In the past, when most mail was letters, mailboxes were smaller, typically 8 x 11 inches. In fact, the design was so entwined with envelopes that in the s Congress granted the U. Only the Postal Service can access your mailbox.

Customers would benefit from reduced delivery costs, additional flexibility, and the knowledge that their packages are safe. Of course, qualifications may be required to ensure security and that mailboxes are not over-crowded.

But the good news is that the U. For years, third parties in Europe have been allowed to deliver parcels to mailboxes, with no security issues. After the restrictions are lifted, we can continue advancing neighborhood logistics. Electronic delivery notifications and boxes with temperature controls are just two potential ideas with immediate potential.

The list of opportunities is endless, but the first step is access. Just what else might neighborhood logistics encompass? Campbell, Ph. Thank you for your comments on our blog. Obsolescence is built in and not built to last. You could tell what kind of car it was from five city blocks away.

One of the classic cars I used to own was a Buick Roadmaster, and if I ran into a brick wall the wall would fall down with little damage to the car. The bumper was made of cast iron. The body was sheet metal, not aluminum, tin, or fiberglass. I could pull a car under a shade tree and with plugs, condenser, points, and a timing light I could tune that sucker up so it purred when it cruised the roads.

Today, you need ten thousand dollars worth of computer diagnostic equipment just to determine your timing belt has slipped.

Not only were the cars a million times better than the cars today—our country was a million times better, too. I offer you below photographs of some, just someof the great American classic cars I remember seeing, riding in, and even owning.

How I wish I owned one today. I am not qualified to criticize the existence or the effectiveness of prisons, but as a member of society who has at one time worked as a Correctional Officer in a maximum security prison, I can and do offer this discussion below. First off, I understand there are many reasons why people commit crimes.

Rather scary Postal Inspector incident

The crimes that involve victims who suffer injury and even death are the most heinous of all crimes. What I do not understand is why people commit those crimes. Why is it a person wants to harm another person and enjoys harming people?

What enjoyment can there possibly be? There is one reason I can understand the desire to hurt someone, and that reason is revenge for a loved one being harmed. I believe in God. I believe in the second coming of Christ, the final judgment, and both Heaven and Hell.

Do you understand what eternity means? It means the torment, the suffering, the pain, agony, and punishment will never, never, never end. It is forever. It has no end. I ask you, then, why did you commit your crime? Were you too lazy to find a job? Did you find it easier to steal something from someone who earned what you stole than to earn it yourself?I've been told I tolerate fools poorly Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment.

I just got this message from one of the buyers. First they said my mailman said that this was an abandoned address. I assured them that I have retired and have lived in this home since and at no time has this house ever been abandoned.

Postal Inspector (1936) BELA LUGOSI

I mentioned that my mailman had made a Registered Mail delivery today and I was at home to sign for it - and I said - my regular mail man and all his coworkers who cover his route know me. They asked if I was expecting anything that could be danerous or harmful. I said I wasn't I said I'd look it up on my Ebay account what was still due me - and couldn't find you - then when they asked if I knew you - your name rang a bell, and said I was expecting a package from you - but couldn't remember what off the top of my head.

It then dawned on me it was the rolls of packing tape - and told them exactly what it was.

He said I was personnally responsible for the package's contents - and I started to get defensive That's all. I gave them permission to open the box for inspection. In all my years of receiving mail, I have never had a postal inspector question me. Jeez - it was something I could have used twenty - thirty years ago, I'd be a nervous jack rabbit!

Just thought you'd get a kick out of this I used to be somebody, now I'm just a coin collector. February 1, AM. Big brother is watching. What a hoot. I used to be a Postal Inspector. Just think, these guys are driving around with a package and they are going to ask the addressee if it is dangerous or harmful.
