However, when your flash counter reflects a number greater than zero, this may cause you problems with the repair warranty that came with your factory phone. By utilizing an app called Triangle Away valid for many Samsung devices you can solve this problem, even if you're up to your neck in custom ROMs. I'll explain how to use this application to reset your flash counter to zero. By accessing the download mode on your device, you'll see that in the section called custom binary download there is a number.
This is the famous flash counter that indicates the number of times you have installed an unofficial ROM on your device. Flashing official firmware does not affect this number. If this counter is not reset, you might experience problems with your guarantee when you take your device in for repair. In any case, you also should keep in mind that rooting your phone does not have to mean losing your warranty. The truth is that if the seller can't demonstrate that the device has been rooted and that flashing a custom ROM or playing around with root access has been the cause of the defect, you will still have your warranty.
In any case, resetting the flash counter to zero is a good way to remove all traces of the changes to which we subject our OS with our tinkering. First of all, I also want to warn all users whose devices come with Android 4. The reason: the inclusion of Knox security software by Samsung. What exactly is Knox? It is a security system that allows multiple user profiles on the same phone, allowing you to, for example, use the phone separately as a personal and professional device, this is what is called a Bring Your Own Device BYOD environment.
However, at the same time Knox has a reader which recognizes changes to the system and does not allow you to secretly restore your device back to its initial state. At the moment there is no tool to reset the flash counter to zero on Samsung devices running Android 4.
For now, all you can do is wait for hackers invent a way to circumvent Knox. If you really don't want to support the developer, you can also download the APK file directly from XDA Developers for free, but considering the solid the dev is doing you it would be nice to show your support.
Always pay attention to the list of devices supported by the application both on the XDA page and in the information accompanying the app in the download pages.
Using Triangle Away on your device carries risks, as always. We will not be held responsible for any damage that may arise if you choose to follow these instructions.
Also, carefully read the information provided alongside the app. When you open the application it will ask you to give it root permission.Samsung devices are highly regarded in the enterprise workplace because of how serious they take security.
Some of their phones are the only Android devices that are certified to be used in government positions around the world. So this means they are constantly investing in improving the security of their smartphones and this has resulted in the Samsung Knox security platform. This does a lot to keep us safe, but it can also be a hindrance.
Even returning the Galaxy S8 to stock Android and a stock recovery will not reset Knox if it has already been tripped. There are a few reasons why you may feel the need to check if Knox has been tripped on the Galaxy S8. For example, if something has gone wrong with your device, you could save time and money by checking this ahead of time.
Because if you send the device to Samsung to get it fixed under warranty and Knox has been tripped, then they will just send it back and say the warranty has been void. So this route will just waste time and possibly money if you paid to ship it.
So as you can see from the step by step guide above, the process is very easy. This is how we check the Galaxy S8 to see if Knox has been tripped. With Samsung Pay, consumers can now utilise their mobile devices to pay at existing point-of-sale terminals. Samsung Pay has the potential of being accepted at approximately 30 million merchant locations worldwide, making it the only mobile payment solution with near universal acceptance. Consumers can use Samsung Pay in merchant locations regardless of whether the terminals support NFC or traditional magstripe, which is the vast majority of existing terminals.
In simpler words, Samsung Pay aimed to be the next best thing as it utilized the existing terminals of merchants, thereby overcoming the shortcoming of Google Wallet, which simply relied on NFC and put the onus on merchants to obtain supporting machinery. Posting members have claimed that running unrooted stock roms on a tripped Knox counter did not re-enable Samsung Pay.
No, this is not the case for all methods used for rooting. So if you are a Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge user, you can still use Samsung Pay when it is available in your country even if you are rooted.

About Samsung’s Knox Counter
The phone is in perfect conditions. If I were to Jump to the S7. Would I have any problems with it?
I have spoke to multiple people they have all said different things. Does anyone know for sure. Someone from T-Mobile said that I would be fine because they do not check for tripped knox in store, but I would be charged for the phone when it goes threw a full check up at T-Mobile.
Is this true? Does anyone went threw this process before and how did it go? Would I have any problems upgrading to the S7? Yes tripped Knox voids the warranty. You "may" get lucky and the person who handles your device might not check and you luck out, but if he does expect to pay the deductible.
That is what happened this past weekend when I was at the T-Mobile store. The rep looked and saw it was tripped and charge for the guy the deductible and he jumped to the S7. They shouldn't charge anything! Every device turned in gets a factory refurbished before being sold again, and samsung can reset the knox counter to 0x0 for Samsung pay to work, so charging a deductible is some crap Sam doesn't release keys for knox but the absolutely can reset the counter.
It used to be possible 2 years ago with triangleaway from chainfire but things have changed since then Yes, however, there's no way for Samsung to know the reason for Knox being tripped, and what's happened after the trip. If it was tripped to be rooted and overclocked, a factory refurbishing may not stop a "ticking time bomb" if it was an abused device. Again, the refurbishment process is going to weed out devices that have been damaged, and in the majority of cases unless someone has gone to the trouble of installing an entirely custom firmware, including a custom kernel with the ability to turn of thermal dvfs throttling heat isn't going to be an issue as devices that are overclocked will reach the dvfs limit and thermal throttling will engage to limit core frequencies until the temp comes down.
In fact, our exynos soc's can't even run continuously at max STOCK frequencies without throttling, so it really doesn't matter if you overclock the device because when the two reaches 95 degrees Celsius dvfs throttling begins and continues to the temp limit of It is reasoable for Samsung to void warranty if the firmware is tampered with or the device is booted with something other than theirs. However, there are many people in the world who want freedom of completely owning their devices and doing whatever they want to do with it.
Depending on the rep you talk with in the store when you do it, you might not get charged. I believe they are supposed to consider that out of warranty.
